SEMARANG, Undip Campus – The Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) at Universitas Diponegoro has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering global-standard education. Through the Undip Global Classroom (UGC) program, an international class was successfully held for the Industrial Microbiology course (2 Credits) across two sessions on May 12 and May 19, 2026.
The program was led by Dr. rer. nat. Anto Budiharjo, S.Si., M.Biotech, serving as both the lecturer-in-charge and the Person in Charge (PIC). To provide a comprehensive global perspective, the initiative invited an international expert from Malaysia, Dr. Shumpei Iehata, as the keynote speaker.
Delving into Modern Bioindustry Research Trends
Throughout the two sessions, students were guided to explore the practical application of microbiological principles within modern industrial contexts. The core discussions focused on:
- Microorganisms as Biological Agents: Utilizing microbes to produce high-economic-value compounds such as enzymes, organic acids, and other advanced biotechnology products.
- Process Optimization: Implementing metabolic engineering strategies and optimizing fermentation processes, which represent current trends in bioindustrial research.
Beyond standard lecturing, interactive Q&A and discussion sessions allowed students to engage directly with Dr. Shumpei Iehata, gaining valuable practical insights and expert perspectives.
