SEMARANG – As a concrete step toward expanding its international academic network, Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) has once again successfully hosted the Undip Global Classroom (UGC) program. For this edition, the Toxicology course (2 credits) invited an international expert from Malaysia, Dr. Fadhil Syukri, to deliver two guest lecture sessions held on May 20 and May 22, 2026. This academic event was accompanied by Rizki Sandhi Titisari, S.Si., M.Si., who served as both the course lecturer and the Person in Charge (PIC).
Delving into the Realities of Toxicology in Southeast Asia
During the interactive lectures, Dr. Fadhil Syukri thoroughly explored the fundamental principles of toxicology. The material covered several key areas:
- The mechanism of toxic substances within living organisms.
- Exposure pathways (the routes through which toxic compounds enter the body).
- Biotransformation and detoxification processes.
- Risk evaluation methods used to assess the hazard level of compounds toward living beings and their surrounding environment.
Going beyond mere theory, Dr. Fadhil also shared real-world case studies on environmental toxicology and applied research approaches. These practical examples were tailored specifically to the Southeast Asian context, providing students with a clear and practical understanding of how this science is implemented in the field.
Supporting the Biology Department’s Core Research
The insights gained from this international classroom are highly relevant for Biology students, particularly those aspiring to pursue careers in environmental health research, food safety, pharmacology, and biosafety testing. The course equips students with a systematic and scientific framework to evaluate the impacts of various compounds on living organisms.
Furthermore, this knowledge serves as a crucial foundation for students interested in advancing their studies in ecotoxicology and aquatic environmental toxicology, which happen to be among the primary flagship research focuses of the Undip Biology Department.
